Free URL shortener

Free URL shortener

A URL shortener turns a long web address into a short one that is easier to share, type, and print. Paste your link, pass a quick verification check, and this free tool returns a short whooshly.co link that redirects to your original URL. Anonymous links get a random back-half and expire after about 90 days. There is no signup, and the tool only accepts http and https addresses.

Your short link
Your short whooshly.co link appears here…

Anonymous links get a random back-half and expire after about 90 days. Want a branded slug, editing after sharing, or click analytics? See below.

How it works

Three steps.

1
Paste your long URL

Drop in any http:// or https:// link, up to about 2,000 characters, query string and all.

2
Pass the quick check

A one-tap verification confirms you are a person, not a spam bot. It keeps the shared domain clean so links keep working.

3
Copy your short link

You get a short whooshly.co link that redirects to your URL. Copy it and share it anywhere.

What a free anonymous short link gives you

This tool makes a working short link with no account. The back-half is random (a short string of letters and digits), the link redirects with a standard 301, and it expires after about 90 days so abandoned links do not pile up forever. It accepts only http and https addresses, so a shortened link can never smuggle a javascript: or data: payload. That is the right fit for a one-off share: a link in a chat, a QR you are testing, a URL too long for a form. It is not the right fit for print you cannot reprint or a campaign you need to measure, because an anonymous link cannot be edited or tracked once it is made.

Anonymous link vs. a Whooshly account

The difference is control. An anonymous link here is random, uneditable, untracked, and temporary. With a Whooshly account your links get a slug you choose (whooshly.co/spring-sale instead of a random string), you can re-point a link to a new destination after you have shared it, you see clicks by country and device, and links do not auto-expire. Same fast redirect engine underneath; the account just adds the parts an anonymous tool cannot safely offer. It is one payment of $49, not a subscription.

Why there is a verification step

Every anonymous link here lives on the shared whooshly.co domain. If spammers could mint links by the thousand, that domain would land on spam blocklists and every link on it, including yours, would start getting blocked or warned against. The verification check (Cloudflare Turnstile) stops automated abuse before it starts, which is what keeps the shortener free and the links trustworthy. Most of the time it is a single tap; only suspicious traffic sees a harder challenge.

Are shortened links safe to click

A short link is just a redirect, so it is exactly as safe as wherever it points. This tool will not shorten a link back to our own domains (no redirect loops) and rejects anything that is not a plain web address, but no shortener can vouch for the destination someone else chose. If you are the one clicking, treat an unfamiliar short link the way you would an unfamiliar email link: hover or long-press to preview where it goes, and be wary if it asks you to log in or pay. If you want the person clicking to trust the link, a branded slug on your own account reads far better than a random string.

Short links you own, not rent

Anonymous links are random and temporary by design. A Whooshly account gives you branded slugs, links you can edit after sharing, click analytics, dynamic QR codes, and no expiry, all on the same fast redirect engine. Pay $49 once, no subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Is this URL shortener really free?

Yes. Paste a link, pass the quick check, and get a short whooshly.co link. No signup, no card, no watermark. The only limits are anti-abuse ones: a per-network rate limit and the verification step.

How long does a short link last?

An anonymous link made here expires after about 90 days, then stops redirecting. That keeps the shared domain clean. If you need a link that never expires, create it from a Whooshly account instead.

Can I choose the back-half or edit the link later?

Not on the free anonymous tool: the back-half is random and the destination is fixed once the link is made. A custom slug (whooshly.co/your-name) and the ability to re-point a link after sharing come with a Whooshly account.

Do you track clicks on the free short link?

No. Anonymous links are not tied to any dashboard, so there is nothing to view. Click analytics (by country, device, and referrer) require an account, where the link belongs to you.

Why do I have to pass a verification check?

Because the tool is anonymous and links share the whooshly.co domain. The check (Cloudflare Turnstile) blocks bots from mass-producing spam links, which is what would get the domain, and everyone's links on it, blocklisted. It is usually one tap.

Tap. Whoosh. You're there.
