GoDaddy
Connect a subdomain in GoDaddy DNS. For a root domain, keep it registered at GoDaddy and follow the guided nameserver move.
Namecheap
Use CNAME for a subdomain or ALIAS at the root on Namecheap BasicDNS, FreeDNS, or PremiumDNS.
Registrar and DNS host can differ. Whooshly checks the nameservers before it gives you instructions, so you do not have to guess which dashboard controls the domain.

A short link has two ways to break where an ordinary URL has one. The destination can rot like any page, and the redirect itself can be switched off by whoever runs it. That second failure is the one people do not plan for, because it has nothing to do with your content and everything to do with someone else's business decisions.
We measured it rather than guessing. We pulled 2,765 short links that Common Crawl captured between 2014 and 2023 and re-resolved every one in 2026. A quarter of them, 25%, were already dead. The spread is the interesting part: tinyurl.com links died at 36% and ow.ly at 32%, while is.gd sat at 15% and j.mp at 10%. Age barely predicted anything once a link was a few years old. Whose shortener it sat behind predicted almost everything.
Google supplied the clearest example. It disabled new goo.gl links in 2018, then set the whole service to deactivate, and 33% of the goo.gl links in our sample no longer resolve. Anything printed pointing at one is now permanently dead, because a printed link cannot be edited after the fact.
That is the reasoning behind how Whooshly is built. Your links are editable, so a moved destination is a two-second fix rather than a reprint, and the core is a one-time payment rather than a subscription, so there is no renewal date that can quietly take down links you already shared. Can I change where a short link points after I've shared it?
Yes. Every Whooshly link has an editable destination – swap it any time and the link itself never changes. That's the whole point: the thing you printed, posted, or emailed keeps working even when the page behind it moves.
Do Whooshly short links expire?
No. Your links stay live as long as your account does. The core is a one-time $35, not a subscription, so there's no renewal date that quietly kills the links you've already shared.
Can I use my root domain, not just a subdomain?
Yes. Core includes one supported domain you own, and Business includes 10: use yourbrand.com/menu at the root or go.yourbrand.com/menu on a subdomain. Root setup works with Cloudflare DNS and compatible ALIAS or CNAME-flattening providers, including eligible Namecheap DNS plans. A root domain on GoDaddy DNS needs its DNS hosting moved; GoDaddy subdomains work directly. Core links on whshly.co remain covered by the one-time payment.
What analytics do I get on each link?
Clicks in real time, broken down by country, device, and referrer. Scans from a matching QR land in the same place, so one campaign reads as one number instead of two.
