What a UPI QR code contains

It is one line of text in the format UPI apps agree on: upi://pay?pa=yourshop@okicici&pn=Your%20Name&cu=INR. The pa field is your UPI ID, pn is the name shown to the payer, cu is the currency (always INR) and am is an optional fixed amount. The payer's app reads it, shows your name, and sends the money straight to your bank account. No one in between holds it.

Fixed amount or open amount

An open-amount code works for everything: tips, a shop counter, a stall at a market. A fixed amount suits one price, like a class fee or a deposit, because the payer can't mistype it. If your price changes, make a new code; a printed code can't be edited.

Put UPI on your link-in-bio page

People who find you on Instagram can't scan a QR on their own phone. On a Whooshly link-in-bio page, UPI becomes a payment button: visitors on a phone get a Pay with UPI app button that opens PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm, visitors on a laptop see your QR, and everyone can copy your UPI ID. You can upload the UPI QR you already have instead of typing.
